What is the STAR Program?
The Support, Transition, and Assessment Resource Program (STAR) is designed to provide emotional and academic support, direct instruction, and a small, home-like environment to students with mental health concerns. We pride ourselves on individualized programming based on student strengths. Flexibility, structure, and a therapeutic approach to education are primary tools for student success within the larger school community.
What's behind the name?
Support - The emotional and academic assistance provided.
Transition - The movement students make between the middle school and high school, between the general education and special education settings, and between high school and post-secondary education.
Assessment - The process of determining individual student need through behavioral observation, academic performance, or standardized tests.
Resource - The program is a resource for all of the above.
In addition to the definitions above, we strongly feel that all our students are like individual stars. Each one has unique strengths to offer the world and we celebrate those advantages regularly.
